Abstract

Opera offers incandescent ingredients for universal stories. Passion, love, betrayal and lies, friendship and challenges, every beat can be observed and enjoyed from multiple perspectives. Psychology (sometimes psychoanalysis), sociology, history, economics and obviously criminal law shed uncomfortable light upon noblesse and misery boiling on stage. Perhaps more subtle but not less relevant, civil law is often the dramaturgic backbone where action deploys from. With this book Filippo Annunziata gives opera fans and law scholars a sharp perspective, focusing upon the spirit of time, the cultural atmosphere and the surprising creativity of many beloved operas.
