Un ritratto di Bellini: Johann Christian Lobe contro i pregiudizi germanici

Anna Ficarella

Abstract

This contribution offers the first Italian translation – along with a critical introduction – of the first extensive critical essay on Bellini ever published (1855), written by Johann Christian Lobe, one of the most influential 19th century German theorists and teachers. His essay constitutes a lucid analysis of the character of Bellini’s compositions: in its pages Lobe systematically dismisses the typical (and not just ‘Germanic’) prejudices against Bellini, which have survived for a long time, at the same time criticizing the inadequate choices of German opera composers.
