Abstract
Following Callas’ well-known recording of Mad Scenes (1959), Jessica Pratt for her discographic debut in a recital presents her own itinerary in early 19th-century Italian opera: Delirio is in fact an outstanding compilation of scene di pazzia, mostly selected from the semiserio genre (with the noteworthy exception of Lucia di Lammermoor) as pursued by Gaetano Donizetti in Emilia di Liverpool and Linda di Chamounix and by Vincenzo Bellini in La sonnambula and I Puritani. In this review is discussed Pratt’s contribution to this demanding repertoire, focusing on her interpretative choices based on historically informed performances.
