Abstract
In evaluating Bianca e Fernando’s production of the 1828 opening of the Teatro Carlo Fenice in Genoa, emphasis is placed not only on the positive musical and acting performances of the artists on stage, but also on certain abstruse abstractions in Hugo de Ana’s stage direction (all the more questionable in productions of rather obsolete works), in contrast to the careful textual criticism efforts made in view of the critical edition of the score.
