I Carteggi di Bellini. Nuove acquisizioni II

Graziella Seminara

Abstract

This contribution aims to pursue integrations to the critical edition of Vincenzo Bellini’s correspondence, published by Olschki in 2017. Thanks to valuable advices, one autograph letter to Carlo Pepoli has been rediscovered at the Biblioteca comunale Planettiana in Jesi, as well as two letters sent by the musician to Giovanni Ricordi, extrapolated from copies of the Milanese company correspondence. The letter to Pepoli is undated, but was probably written at the end of Summer in 1834; the others to Ricordi are dated July 12 and 13, 1831. The occasion is worth reporting of a lot of five autograph letters to countess Virginia Martini Giovio della Torre, presented at Sotheby’s auction in London on December 3, 2019. Those letters were written between February 17, 1834 and April 7, 1835, and only the last one was known, thanks to a transcription by Raffaello Barbiera, published in Florence in 1910. Sotheby’s Catalogue contains more information on the other four, unpublished letters, while on the website are reproduced two pages, one of which is transcribed in the paper.
